What Starting Lineup is

Starting Lineup is a line of sports action figures made from 1988 to 2001, first by Kenner and later by Hasbro. [1]

It was dreamed up by Pat McInally, a former Cincinnati Bengals player. [1]

How it started

Kenner’s first 1988 releases were a 132-player MLB set, a 137-player NFL set, and an 85-player NBA set. [1]

Kenner shipped figures by region, so out-of-market players were hard to find, and so was a full set. [1]

In 1989 Kenner added “Baseball Greats” two-packs of past Hall of Famers, like Mickey Mantle with Joe DiMaggio. [1]

A typical figure is about 4 inches tall, and many came with a sports card of the player. [1]

The figures came back as a stadium promotional item at several sporting events in the late 2010s. [1]

Tips

Carded (still on the card) and loose figures sell very differently. Compare sold prices for the same condition.
